Biography:

Bennie Kara is a deputy headteacher in the East Midlands, specialising in curriculum, teaching and learning. She started her career in the inaugural cohort of Teach First in 2003, teaching English in East London. Since then, she has taught in four London boroughs and in South Oxfordshire, before returning to Derby.

Bennie speaks, writes and trains on diversity in the curriculum. Alongside supporting schools to diversify their curriculum, she is the author of 'A Little Guide for Teachers: Diversity in Schools'. She has written on the subject of diversity for publications such as Schools Week and the Chartered College of Teaching's Education Exchange. She is the co-founder of Diverse Educators.

 

Session Overview: 

Diversity in the Curriculum

 In this session, Bennie delivers an in depth look at practical ways in which you can diversify the curriculum.

 The session includes:

 An overview of the social and moral imperative behind diversity in the curriculum

  • An examination of how diversifying the curriculum can avoid tokenism and align with current ideas in curriculum theory
  • A practical look at how schools can successfully navigate process of diversifying the curriculum
  • An insight into how to evaluate your current curriculum
  • Clear, defined and cross-phase/subject strategies that can be applied in adapting the curriculum.

 This training session can be delivered in 60-90 minutes.  It is relevant to all primary, secondary and post-16 education.  You can request additional elements or adjustments to the content to suit your needs.

Cancellations made within 2 weeks of the training date or non attendance will be subject to a 100% charge. Cancellations made 2 weeks prior to the training date will not be charged.
