Session:

“What is Next for School Improvement?” What are the factors that drive improvement? How can we build the culture for effective school improvement? What questions should school leaders have in mind when measuring the impact of their strategies?

Biography:

Sir David Carter was the National Schools Commissioner from 1 February 2016 to 31 August 2018.

Before his appointment he was the first Regional Schools Commissioner for the South West.

David is a music graduate of the University of London and has taught music in comprehensive schools across the country since he started teaching in September 1983. In 1997, he became headteacher of Cirencester Deer Park School in Gloucestershire.

His previous roles include:

  • Principal of John Cabot City Technology College in Bristol in 2004
  • CEO of the Cabot Learning Federation from 2007 to 2014, where he lead the growth of the federation to include 12 schools and successfully applied to become one of the first teaching schools in the country in 2011
  • being one of the first national leaders of education

He received a knighthood for services to education in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2013.

Sir David is a trustee at several charities including Centrepoint, the charity that is aiming to eradicate youth homelessness, a trustee of the charity that oversees the annual Teaching Awards as well as being on the board of the Talent Foundry Trust, a charity creating new opportunities through wider enrichment and support for dis-advantaged children. Sir David also chairs the Tim Henman Tennis Foundation.

Sir David continues to place family, music, golf and Cardiff City FC at the heart of his relaxation time and continues to be very proud of being awarded a knighthood for his services to education in the summer of 2013.

You will be invoiced for your booking after the training; please do not issue payment before receiving your invoice. Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date.

Cancellations made within 2 weeks of the training date or non attendance will be subject to a 100% charge. Cancellations made 2 weeks prior to the training date will not be charged.
