Session Overview:
Reading plays a crucial role in supporting pupils’ attainment, and not just in subjects you might expect. Teaching reading is overwhelmingly complex. Reading involves pupils engaging in a complex coordination of several cognitive processes. Pupils must utilise both word reading and language comprehension dimensions to read and understand successfully drawing upon many other reading behaviours as part of this.
In this session, we aim to support schools to engage with the best available evidence on teaching primary reading in order to develop a robust and practical approach to improving reading. The session will deep dive into the best evidence available around classroom based reading strategies and behaviours. It will include practical examples that should help teachers to make better-informed decisions about how to best support pupils' reading.
